Zachary has been having recurring infections in his parotid gland. It has happened 8 times in the past 3 years. So, the pediatrician wanted us to see an ENT to see if there is a reason this keeps happening. Wednesday was his appointment with her. (BTW, if anyone needs a pediatric ENT in KC, she is AWESOME!) He was fine Wednesday, but she ordered a CT Scan of his neck to see if there is anything in there.
Thursday, after school, Sarah was running down the hill like she always does and twisted her ankle and landed on it. She went to jump up and shake it off like she always does (she is one tough cookie) and couldn't, and she just started screaming. I loaded her in the van (glad I didn't walk) and came home. I took off her shoe and sock, and her ankle was horribly swollen, slightly discolored, and her leg was swelling all the way down to her toes and all the way up to her knee. She couldn't walk, and 35 minutes after it happened, she was still crying.
So I took her to urgent care (after calling to have Dorothy come stay with Josh, Zach, and the other 4 year old I had, and then calling my Mom to come relieve Dorothy). The xrayed her quickly and then we waited 2 hours to see a doctor (we were there 3 hours total). She sat in the chair and read books and didn't move. He came in and said that he didn't see a break, but that there was so much swelling that there could be a break hiding in there. He said it was one of the worst sprains he had ever seen in a 4 year old. He put her in an ace wrap, air cast, and post-op shoe. He wants her on crutches, except they don't do that at her age. She has to stay off of it for 3-4 days (which isn't a big deal because she can't even put enough weight on it to balance herself), but if she can't put weight on it by day 5, we have to go see an orthopedic surgeon. She can't go back to normal activity levels for 6 weeks (including roller skating).
She is in so much pain. After she woke up, we brought her downstairs and except for carrying her to the potty, she hasn't left the couch. It is nasty, swollen, black and blue. Poor baby girl. I've never seen her in so much pain and it has been A LONG time since I have seen her this still (she is always on the go!). She is frustrated that she is stuck without moving. They said to give her motrin every 6 hours around the clock for 3-4 days. I must say that it is quite difficult to carry around a 48 pound 4 year old at almost 4 months pregnant.
This morning, Zachary had his CT Scan. Unfortunately, when they scan certain areas ( including the neck), they have to use contrast. So, he had to be brave, get an iv, and have contrast administered. Fortunately that all went smoothly, though it meant another 2 hours at Children's.
I'm attaching pictures from last Friday of Sarah feeding Robby his bottle. She adores him, though evidently it irritates her when he chews on her toys. And one picture of her laying on the couch today.

Those pictures of Sarah feeding Robby are adorable. I can see he wasn't all that cooperative though :). I asked him today if he chewed on Sarah's toys. He declined to answer. He did say yes when I asked him if he terrorized that cat.
