July 5, 2013
Over the 4th of July, the kids and I went to Colorado for about a week. The day we got to town, we went straight to my Grandma's house. The girls love their Nana.
Surprisingly, Jason got done with work early and drove out late on July 3. It was nice to be able to spend part of the week with him. He brought the puppies too, which was a fun mix with my Aunt's 4 dogs. Really they all got along great. We spent the 4th of July at my Grandma's house, and because of the fires, the cities pretty much all cancelled their fireworks displays.
We had decided that the 5th, we were going to take the kids to drive up Pike's Peak. Jason and I drove up there our sophomore year of college, but we couldn't go the whole way up because of snow. The kids had never been. About every other time we go out there, we try and take a day to do something "touristy". We also took my cousin's boys who are a few months older than Sarah. We left in the morning and made a stop at Target to get some snacks and other necessities. Then we started up Pikes Peak. By the time we got to the top, we were all suffering from a bit of altitude sickness. Unfortunately, every time we take Zach up that high, he REALLY has a tough time. So we didn't spend as much time up there as I would have liked. But, a storm moved in very quickly, and by the time we got down to the break check system, they had already closed the summit. We had dinner at a local Mexican Restaurant before heading back.
The 6th, Jason left with the puppies and Anna, and they drove to Des Moines for a couple of days. The kids and I went out to Jason's cousin's house for dinner. They moved out to a farm, and the kids thought it was so cool. They all had their first "horseback" ride (not on a pony), played with a goat, chicken, sheep, and we all just had a really nice time!
